| What a Week |

The 12 days ago it would seem that I had a huge steaming pile of shit just fall out of the sky and fall into my lap. For those who know well you know whats going on, for those who don't I'll tell you later. But in short everyone is now fine or on their way to recovery. |

| Back from the backwoods |

Just arrived back from a month at the Joint Readiness Training Center in Ft. Polk, LA. Where we spent the last 3.5 weeks in a "war" as real as its gonna get in a controlled environment. We had our terrorists, we had our disgruntled tribes, we had our warring factions, our nosey journalists, disgruntled locals, smugglers, crime lords, etc. All compounded into a month long training event. It was fun and interesting. I was evaluated on my technical competance and the ability of my section and was told by the senior evaluator he considered me one of the top 3 intelligence officers he has seen perform here. Since I didn't loose my cool and start strangling everyone in sight. It was busy and insane averaging about 3-4 hours a sleep a night, doing everything from mission planning, to information analysis and even participating in a mission or two. But now I have returned to the land of running water and real food. YUM! |

Okay, the disowned part done with, and you know what OH WELL!!! Get over it to those who made me choose, first of all I am an adult and second of all This is the U.S.A. not some east asian medival country. I have come to reflect alot of what has happened and look at myself hard. Have I amounted to anything? Or have I just hit a dead end. But today while chatting with the Chaplain he asked me a interesting question, What do you like about what you do now. And the answer was easy, comradere can't get it anywhere else not like the one I have experienced here. Where else can I trust my life with the guy I only met 5 minutes ago. But alas I ramble and tommorrow is a brand new day. |

Okay I am away on business, can't really say where but can say that part in Europe and the other part in a place I did some real growing up. And I can say this it sucked and was hot back then, and it still stinks, sucks and is hot now...and takers / guesses to where I am ???? Oh yeah another hint...I'm armed. |

You know you've adapted to the weather when 20 degrees outside with snow and ice feels too warm to be wearing a coat. Since a couple days before it was about -10 with windchill. |

| The New Year and almost my last |

Its the New Year and about 3 hours ago I saw life flash before my eyes as my car hit a patch of ice while going 70 MPH spun around litterally doing a 360 missing the divider and eventually landing me to the side of the road missing the mile marker and guard rail by 6 inches really! In my shock I looked to out the window and saw two other cars in the ditch one flipped on its roof and the other with half a light post pinning it down. Since there was no impact I was in shock but saw the other two wrecks so I ran out with my first aid kit to see if anyone needed help. Thankfully everyone was alright. And my near death experience is how I started off the New Year. I called the Duty Officer at my unit and told them I have returned had a incident but was okay. I think. Just really shaken up. And now that I think of it I think I missed a semi that was passing me too.....okay time to sit and relax. This really sucks...What a way to start off a year. |

Today started out as any other day in Garrison (the times we are just there in the HQ making things work---for those who are not familiar with terms) I was in my soon to be office talking with the man I am about to replace, about work, current missions etc. Then we talk about when we were in Iraq, what we saw did etc. Two different experiences, but then we hit a subject of helicopters. I mentioned how after a while (like after our 3rd F**cking ambush!) we finally recieved gunship escorts. Nothing like the sound of a Apache clearing the way. And he mentioned when his unit was there, shortly after mine left, they had support from a unit from North Carolina. I mentioned that I had a friend in that unit that was shot down and killed. He got that look on his face and said was their name (LAST NAME) ..I said yes. Wow small world, indeed though we agreed on what mattered, she was one hell of a person, friend and pilot. I can still remember talking to her on the radio on training missions in Korea. And he said that she always put out 110% in helping his unit out when she was in the air, flying over head fully loaded. Its such a small world...but its filled with big people. |

Alas I am in Kansas....its flat...its cold...it sucks to drive in the snow...but its temporary home for a while. At least for 2 years. I miss you all already you know who you are in the great Peach State. But we will see each other again soon. I am almost completely processed in. I met my new Commander and the unit I am assigned too. As for what you wonder what I do here, this is the short unclassified version. I am the S2(intelligence)secion Officer in Charge. I am responsible for collecting, analyzing, all information on the enemy and making reccommendations to the commander on how to fight them. Lots of responsibility, since the fight will be determined on what I provide and reccommend. The unit is a good one they just got back for the Sand Box and aren't suppose to go back for a while unless all hell breaks loose. I am a bit nervous, but it should pass in time. I made it clear that this is the last duty assignment before I get out of the Army, but assured my boss that I will be 100% with them in the fight if needed while I am here, its the least I owe to the troops. My sergeant is awesome hardcore charger, my assistant is okay from what I can gather. My new Call sign is CENTURION 2, which is better by far from what i've had in the past. I move into my new APT this monday. Well gotta go, for now. See you all soon. |
